What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
An Overview of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting and submission grappling. Developed from Japanese Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, BJJ emphasises technique and leverage to enable a smaller, weaker person to overcome a larger opponent. Practitioners use joint locks and chokeholds to force opponents to submit. BJJ training promotes physical fitness, mental discipline, and strategic thinking. It gained global popularity, particularly in mixed martial arts, for its effectiveness in real-life self-defence scenarios. The art’s essence lies in using intelligence and skill to control and submit opponents, making it a dynamic and evolving discipline.
Strength, Intelligence & Control: The Gorilla Identity
Gorilla Quote: I’m Built to Conquer
Strength, power, and dominance are highly valued traits in martial arts, and the gorilla used in my logo is a symbol of these qualities. Gorillas are also known for their intelligence and control, qualities that are essential in Jiu-Jitsu, which emphasises technique, strategy, and patience over brute force. The gorilla’s calm, reserved demeanour can quickly turn powerful when needed, just as Jiu-Jitsu practitioners are trained to remain composed and react effectively in combat situations.
The gorilla’s ability to combine strength, intelligence, and control is what makes it built to conquer.
